It is safe to say that our political representatives have failed us.

The birth of representative democracy arose from the need to adapt to a large-scale population. In such a system, mass numbers of people can theoretically enjoy control over their representatives and their decision-making. By voting for a representative, people can affect the political agenda and advance policies, which they think are needed.
Representative democracy has many problems already visible to all of us: it is infested with personal and financial interests, promised political agendas are not followed once in office, money is often controls the system, and representatives can be elected according to their financial resources. In most democratic countries, the majority of the people have already lost their trust in the system and many do not participate in the elections.
